Director

Mrs. Tricia Laux is in her ninth year of teaching orchestra, and her third year in Ohio where she teaches orchestra in grades 5-8 at Davis Middle School. Mrs. Laux is originally from western New York, where she started the violin in the 4th grade in the public schools. She added the viola in ninth grade, along with percussion and trombone. She is a proud graduate of the University of Florida where she obtained a bachelor’s degree in music education.

Before relocating to Ohio, she was the orchestra director at Chain of Lakes Middle School in Orlando for one year. Prior to Orlando, she spent four years teaching strings and general music at Rochelle School of the Arts, an arts magnet school in Lakeland, Florida. While at the K- 8 school, she established the “Swinging Strings” fiddle group, which performed at the 2006 Florida Music Educator’s State Conference. She was also named “Arts Teacher of the Year” in 2006 while at Rochelle. In addition, she has served as a clinician and certified adjudicator throughout the state of Florida.

Mrs. Laux has presented clinics at the state and national levels, including three presentations at the American String Teachers Association National Conferences. She has served as state secretary and most recently, as president-elect for the (ASTA) Florida chapter.

Mrs. Laux recently served as the operations coordinator for the Columbus Youth Symphony Chamber Strings, under the direction of Dr. Robert Gillespie. She received her master’s degree in Educational Policy and Leadership at The Ohio State University with the hopes of someday becoming a middle school principal. Mrs. Laux is a member of ASTA, MENC, and the UF Alumni Association.

Mrs. Laux is married to Charles, orchestra director with the Hilliard City School District. Charles and Tricia are both members of the The Columbus String Quartet and reside in Hilliard with their sons, Charlie and Andy.
